About

Our beginning

Childhood reading meets adult advocacy

Fun|K Books began with a simple question: what would help children learn to treat one another well, and help the adults beside them do the same? The answer became two strands of one publishing list.

Our children's books focus on kindness and inclusion. Our books for adults offer advocacy and practical guidance for parents of children with special needs.

Our standards

Respect before representation

We approach disability, neurodiversity, and family differences with natural respect and grounded insight. Our stories show children with varied abilities in everyday life, not as lessons or objects of pity.

Meet L. C. Freedman

L.C. Freedman was born and raised in Germany and moved to Minnesota as a young adult, where she built a life and family. As a devoted mother to a child with special needs, she draws inspiration from the everyday resilience and creativity in their lives. By day, L.C. works in a highly technical field, but her heart belongs to everything and anything creative. Writing became the space where that creativity could flourish.
Her mission is to offer comfort, representation, and encouragement to families navigating the world of special needs, sharing the beauty she sees in their unique journeys.

What we commit to

Three commitments we keep

Each title on our list answers to the same standards, whether it is written for a child or for an adult.

Inclusive storytelling

Our children's books place kindness and inclusion inside ordinary days, so every reader can see themselves on the page.

Parent empowerment

Our adult titles give parents clear, grounded guidance, with room for their own family's way of doing things.

Community dialogue

Educators, parents, and advocates help shape each book from first draft to publication, and our stories are made to be read aloud across generations.
